Getting Started
Set up your first directory in six steps, from a free account to a live page.
1
Create Your Account
Sign up for a free DirectoryDuck account. No credit card required.
- Go to directoryduck.com/signup
- Sign up with your email and a password, or with Google
- Confirm your email address from the link we send you
2
Create Your First Directory
Give your directory a name and its web address.
- Click "New Directory" from your dashboard
- Choose a name for your directory (e.g., "Chicago Restaurants")
- Pick its slug: your directory goes live at directoryduck.com/your-slug
- Add a short description (optional); it shows on your directory's page
3
Add Listings
Fill your directory with businesses or items. You have three options:
- Manual entry: add listings one by one in the dashboard
- CSV import: upload listings from a spreadsheet, then publish them in one click
- AI Discovery: describe what you want, and AI finds matching businesses on the web for you to review and publish
4
Customize Your Settings
Configure what your listings show and how your directory looks.
- Add custom fields for your listings (text, number, URL or select), such as hours or prices
- Tag listings with categories; the full-directory embed, the listings widget and the API can filter by them
- Pick your directory's colors under Directory Theme in Settings
5
Embed Widgets
Show your directory on a website you already have.
- Open your directory's Settings and copy the full-directory embed or a widget snippet
- Paste it into your website's HTML
- Choose a light or dark theme for each widget
- Widgets show your current data each time the page loads
6
Go Live
Publish your listings and start collecting reviews and inquiries.
- Publish your listings: only published (Active) listings show on your directory
- Share your directory at directoryduck.com/your-slug
- Send a business its claim page (directoryduck.com/claim/your-slug/listing-slug): it confirms its email, and you approve the claim
- Collect reviews with the review form widget or review-request links, and approve each one
